Apnea, CPAP, and the TSA

About 3...or maybe it was 4 years ago, after being kicked, shoved, and told to BREATHE by my wife, Kim, I went to a sleep lab. Sure enough, mild apnea, when the airway partially collapses and you pretty much suffocate until your brainstem triggers a fight or flight response and a gasp for air. All of this while still asleep, mind you. Getting used to a CPAP machine is difficult. The message boards provide some insight, and help, and are funny in that 21st century way of the sig. Pictures of their CPAP machines, headgear, and whatnot. I'm runnin' a Fisher & Paykel Bi-PAP, with heater, and humidifier, K&N pollen filter, blah, blah, blah. Actually a Respironics Remstar and a Puritan Bennett Breeze with nasal pillows.
Anyway, traveling with a CPAP machine can be helpful, as it is not considered to be one of your 2 carry-ons. There is enough extra room in the CPAP bag for a couple cameras, maybe a bottle of water, or two.
So if you want to keep your wife happy, feel better in the morning, and could use a little extra carry-on room, go to a sleep clinic.

The new Solar PV System

A couple weeks ago our electric meter started running backward. During daylight only, of course. We took the plunge after The Mayor announced a rebate plan that gave those in our zip code a pretty enticing offer. We chose Occidental Power as our installer, using the latest pannels and inverter from SunPower in San Jose.
Ours is a 2.5 kw system consisting of 11 panels. Installation was right at 1 week, and the guys did a super nice job. It will be 15 years before we break even, but we won't ever have another electric bill.
